happy place, happy space: special treats

I am a sucker for sparkly lights, festive decorations and street bling.

Christmas was very low key in this regard. Then there were rumours that Chinese New Year (12 Feb 2021) would be the same. To my delight, there are a quantity of lanterns, fairy lights, and an attempt at festive cheer which I have enjoyed on my runs.

We will not be able to gather, feast and observe this occasion like we have done before. So, we try new things: for the first time, I have mailed a quantity of Chinese New Year greeting cards. And perhaps over Zoom, my siblings & parents will share a yam seng.

In the spirit of togetherness, we will usher in the Lunar New Year in the best way we can.

  1. I’ve been thinking about CNY in Singapore. CNY celebrations in Toronto have always been more muted than what I experienced in SG. Even so with restrictions, I’m glad to hear that you’re still seeing happy & cheerful decorations.

The pineapple cakes looking like mandarins are amazing. Wow!

Thanks for joining the Friendly Friday Challenge. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

    1. I think you would think our celebrations very muted here this year ….

Does Chinatown in Toronto lantern-up & decorate? Hope you are able to enjoy some of the festivities.

Thanks so much for hosting this challenge – appreciate you & Amanda rallying us together!

      1. Toronto has several Chinatown areas spread out and outdoor decorations aren’t really done. The most would be inside the bigger Chinese shopping malls (which are all closed because of Covid.) CNY decorations are in the Chinese grocery stores along with the CNY musak – and that’s it. So not a big deal here outside of the home.

Thanks for the kind words. Amanda & I have fun pulling Friendly Friday together. Glad to have you join in !
