Believe it or not, this was taken on a rainy morning. Despite the insistent drizzle, the sun did its best to assert its presence.
That has been our February.
We have been on a self-imposed social quarantine in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. We imagine we are on a staycation with lots of opportunities to entertain ourselves at home. One of the benefits of homeschooling previously is we are geared up for exactly this sort of thing. We have space and time to catch up on projects put on hold, and to make lots and lots of goodies!
Are you affected by this public health issue? How are you coping?
Leaving you with one of my favourite songs by a currently favourite band. Keep safe & stay healthy!

Oh no! I hope that you are all well and being cautious rather than ill.
I’ve been doing a bit of virus-preparation in terms of making sure we could survive a couple of weeks quarantine. After the earthquakes NZers have been a bit more conscious of emergency preparedness, so we have a lot of stuff in place; it’s just a case of making sure it’s the right stuff.
Stay well my friend.

Singapore has been in Dorscon Orange for a couple weeks now.

We have socially quarantined ourselves because several in the immediate family have compromised lungs (asthma, pneumonia survivors, COPD) – so we have just decided to take extra precautions and avoid what we can.

Stay safe Ju Lynn, it seems to be spreading so fast. I bought more tinned goods in my weekly shop today, and some face masks, and we are not under threat…… yet…..

I see I wasn’t the only one up to cooking! Everything looks so delicious.
Yeah, in Thailand, it’s been weird. Do we trust govt numbers? despite the large amounts of Chinese entering the country? Or is it true, the heat kills the virus or at least stunts its growth?
We’ve been taking more precautions, but other than that, there’s not a whole lot else we can do.

We just do the best that we can.

Do you have a recipe for your orange blueberry cake, Ju-Lyn? I want to make an orange cake tomorrow and it would be fun to try a different recipe. I even have blueberries in the fridge.

How exciting Amanda! I was going to work on getting the recipe (we tweaked it a little) ready for a post next week. But I am happy to take a photograph and send it to you now.

Yes indeed! Happy baking Amanda – we found this cake to be quite delicious. We used Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.

I have some yoghut in the fridge – it is lemon myrtle and macadamia flavoured though???

That is such an exciting yogurt flavour! I think it would go rather well with the blueberries!!!!

We can only try. I received the email and thought, Oh no, I only have one orange, but thought I might sneak in a little of the juice as well as the zest. As for the yoghurt, it is an Australian thing. Lemon myrtle comes from a native tree ( bush tucker) and seems to be a real trendy flavour at the moment. I just finished some cheese that was lemon myrtle flavoured. If you like lemon flavoured things, it was delicious. I don’t know if you can source Kenilworth cheeses over your way?

I love the way you bake, Amanda, lots of tweaking with what you have! We tend to be like that in our kitchen too!

That is what makes it fun and to be truthful, I am a bit lazy not wanting to go out and buy extra ingredients if I don’t have to….

I have that one in the fridge now. The Macadamia myrtle one is only available from the dairy itself, which is a two hour drive to the country….

Or perhaps I should half the recipe, Ju-Lyn? It looks like it makes a huge cake?????

Ah yes! I halved the recipe – we made 3 layers using 15cm tins. Good spotting!

Hope you are all safe and well Ju-Lyn and your baking looks delicious! Here in Scotland people who have returned from holidays or business trips to affected areas are self-isolating too. So far all their tests have come back negative and hopefully it will stay that way.

I’m impressed that you are so calm about it, Ju-Lynn. I’ve tried to encourage my family to put together a few supplies in case we are quarantined. We can’t survive beyond one day without having to go the supermarket. I hope your family is all well. They will certainly be well fed. Take care, Ju-Lynn.

I’m glad you and your family have all you need at home. Keep safe! The food all looks very tasty. I am not confident we are well prepared in the UK. I feel especially worried about my mum who is in her 80s and is very sociable. If she has to stay indoors for any length of time, she’ll not be happy.

Your delicious goodies have me drooling! How do you feel now weeks into social quarantine? For me I’ve been observing how quickly I’ve adjusted to this new normal. Signs are that the outbreak is slowing down here, but I think the trauma from this scare (masks!) will leave some scars.

I am so glad you are vicariously enjoying our baked goodies!!!
You are absolutely right about adjusting to the new normal – we have a routine when we leave the home and when we return. Some might say our protocols are over the top (mask-wearing, hand sanitising, social quarantine) but with these in place, we have less anxiety.
But family and friends in Europe & North America are now getting hit, and the panic is beginning with them – so we are still watching and concerned for them.
We are looking forward to doing more things later this month but are wondering if they will be cancelled given that in Singapore, we are still in a state of alert.
How are things for you at work? We hear that many businesses have been hit hard.
