August was a month of normalisation: a time to take a breath after an exciting few months of family visits and travel. School begins, routines kick back in, space to gawk at familiar places and wonders.
Like this old friend, the Malayan Water Monitor, camouflaged in the Feature Photo (which is flipped on its side). Early enough in the morning to catch sight of him in his favourite tree in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, presumably seeking out bugs for brekkie. The glee of amazing nature.

Amazing camouflage. Thanks for the Joni Mitchell; her wonderful voice is always welcome and soothing.

Well done, Monitor. I’m glad you’re hiding to make it harder for me to see you. You give me the heebee-geebees!

I know, right? Creepy crawlies awe & terrify me all at once!
I actually see him (or one of his brethren) quite often up this tree, but it always takes a while to tease out knots in the tree and his presence.

That’s kind of a fun activity. I think I’d do it too just be sure he was still IN THE TREE! 🙂 🙂
