The Changing Seasons: April 2019

It is finished.

I posted my final poem for the month of April for Singapore Poetry Writing Month. It has been a crazy rollercoaster ride, and I’ve missed you all! I have been tempted to peek in every now and again but have tried very hard to stay focused on writing that one poem every day. My goal was to use a poetic form for every poem attempted; I am happy to report I managed to do just that. I wasn’t able to fulfil all 30 prompts, but on days I was too befuddled, I settled for a NoPrompt poem. 30 days 30 poems.

Here is my final piece using a Nucleus poem which mimics the structure of an atom. This exciting form was created in 2015 by Singapore-based Bangladeshi poet Syedur Rahman Liton.

Through the month, I watched my Dad labour with recuperation from his week in ICU. I am amazed at & inspired by his determination to regain muscle mass, function and his appetite.  His zest for life and strong desire to continue travelling & eating are spurring him on! Go Dad!

  1. Ju-Lyn, a beautiful and powerful poem. I’m taken with this new-ish format … the ‘starlight’ in the centre around which the poem rotates. All the best to your father – tough times for you both and feels as if you’re both drawing strength and inspiration from each other.

    1. Thank you for the well-wishes for Dad. He is mostly recovered and very much looking forward to travelling again in a few weeks. He is enjoying his Eating Adventures again, so we are all relieved and pleased (took him a while to regain his appetite & pleasure from eating).

    1. Thank you thank you Yvette! Really appreciate your encouragement & support. I have been taking time to clear my mind – wrote my first poem in a while yesterday and I think I am recovered! Now, the daunting task of tidying everything up and logging it all in my handy-dandy spreadsheet!
