One sleep on the plane this past Friday and suddenly, Lovely Daughters and I miraculously find ourselves transported from rainy, humid & hot Singapore to rainy, grey & cold London! Grey & Cold are by no means a criticism – this is the way we like our weather!
Walking home from Waitrose (one of our favourite London haunts), Older Daughter
gesticulated excitedly as we turned away from our route to see what had caught her eye. This whimsical Greenhouse was the subject of her delight and has since been the subject of many of our conversations.
The plaque informs us that this curiously placed Beauty is a Greenhouse made up of salvaged 18th & 19th Century stained glass from churches. Tony Heywood & Alison Connie who are responsible for this work of art, describe it as horticultural installation art.
Poking around their website, it looks like this artpiece stood outside the Royal British Society of Sculptors for a time in 2016, but has found its way to this residential neighbourhood.
This is my submission to Delsey Jane‘s RegularRandom. The first series were taken on the way to Waitrose today, and the latter ones, after.
Would you like to join in the RegularRandom crew? Here’s how:
- choose a subject or a scene
- spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
- try to not interfere with the subject, instead see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
- have fun!
- tag your post #regularrandom and ping back to Delsey Jane’s post
It sounds like a fun challenge! Lucky you travelling to a cooler climate, and finding a marvellous sight like this on your walk. Are you spending Xmas over in the North?

I do feel very fortunate to have this extended time is such a very different place. The girls and I are immersed in a whole new world!
We are here till mid-Jan so we have quite a bit of celebrating to do in London (a couple of birthdays, Christmas, New Years)

What an amazing piece of art. I love the idea of repurposing art to make new work. Enjoy your English Christmas; the weather will certainly be a change from home 😀

🙂 so long as it doesn’t get too cold and miserable. My recollection of living in England is that eventually winter gets tedious and we were always glad to escape back to NZ for some sunshine.
